"USS Boxer is returning to San Diego to undergo additional maintenance in support of its deployment in the Indo-Pacific region," Lt. Cmdr. "We're seeing some potential delays on [the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp]," Franchetti said. KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia on Wednesday accused Ukraine’s Western allies of helping plan and conduct last week’s missile strike on the Black Sea Fleet’s headquarters on the annexed Crimean Peninsula. The USS Boxer dumped fuel into the ocean, which contaminated its own water supply. A Marine veteran from that deployment told Insider they drank and showered in the contaminated water for as long as a few weeks. Boxer's crew soon noticed the smell of fuel in the drinking water, and Marines and sailors told Military.com that Boxer leadership had claimed that the water was safe to drink. The Boxer is not the only US Navy ship to be stricken with contaminated water over the last few years. One sailor aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln told Insider in an interview last year that the ship's water tasted "horrible" and they couldn't "escape it."

Fires are breaking out on Navy ships in port more often than they are reported, a government watchdog found. The GAO flagged multiple problems with the reporting system, as well as how lessons are learned from fires. It said the incomplete picture has "given the Navy a false sense of security." Fires when a ship is in port, particularly when it is undergoing repairs and maintenance, are not uncommon. "As a result," the GAO assessed, "the Navy has lost lessons learned over time—such as steps that a ship can take to improve fire safety."
